Scene
*Seniors approach my door carrying water guns
*I open the door bearing a much bigger water gun
Senior A: I bet it’s not even loaded.
*I shoot him in the chest
*Senior A looks down at his wet t-shirt
Senior B: Well, that wasn’t very professional.
Me: There is no professionalism in war.
Senior B: Oh, shit.

A senior wiped frosting all down the side of my face and neck.
I hid behind a pillar, sent him a text, waited until he was looking down, and got him right in the face with an entire cupcake.
I really want to do yoga, but I’ve been wearing frosting for 5.5 hours now.
Traditionally the day before graduation the seniors torture the underclassmen with water guns.
They don’t know that...

Dear Self,
It’s 3:35 on the Friday of the last working weekend of the school year, and you snuck out on time. Why are you still wearing pants? Fix that, would you.

I'm staying with R's daughter
R: We should be back around two am. Can you leave a pillow and my favorite blanket on the couch for me? Is it sad I have a favorite blanket?
Me: Um, I brought my pillow AND my favorite blanket over to your house to sleep with.
R: This is why we're friends.
Me: Obviously.

No amount of Epsom salt will make my feet stop feeling all stretched out.
A mark of a good standing practice right there.
Going to go collapse now.
Can’t believe I used to do the Ashtanga primary series every day. Or that I could get into kurmasana without help.
Those were the days.

If you needed a reason to major in history
My undergraduate thesis was “Oportet Haereses Esse: The Cathars and the Waldensians in Medieval Europe”. You don’t get to be that pretentious in many other majors.
My masters thesis was “We Render Services, We Endure Pains, We Receive Praise: Eléazar Mauvillion, Charles Joseph de Ligne, and the Literary History of Prince Eugene of Savoy”.
The working title was “Sexy Lads: Pretty Boys Who...

Inquiring minds want to know
Dear yoga people,
Is there any therapeutic difference between putting your hand inside or outside your foot in utthita parsvakonasana? I’ve always done it inside—it feels more comfortable, and I can open more by pressing my arm into my leg. But is there a reason to place your hand outside your leg? Also, I’m nosy. Which do you prefer?
I’ll just sit here until you satisfy...

How yoga helps me impress my teenagers
Student: You know, miss, I’m surprised you can carry that many books with your scrawny arms.
Me: Beg your… what are… scrawny arms?!
(does push-up)
Student: No, I’m just saying—
(does bakasana)
Student: Damn, girl!

I have a paper due Thursday, which under normal circumstances wouldn’t be a problem except I have this pesky little full-time job.
I’ve been sitting at my computer for an hour not writing it.
So I got up and took off my jeans.
Because, of course, that’s going to help.

2013 Goals
Read two books Ha, no. But I did write two papers.

Yesterday was a needed break from school (the one I work at, not the one I go to). It’s just been a crazy quarter.
I was greeted by a chorus of “We missed you!” today in every class.
I do love my punk kids.
Prom tonight. My dance card is filling up.
I know, my kids are weird.

Oil pulling with a cold
Clearly I am not the brightest crayon in the box. I’ve been away from my apartment for a few days, so today was the first time I’ve oil pulled since Monday. I did not take my cold into account. Sit back and let me tell you about my morning.(Warning: we’ve all had colds. We’ve all been disgusting. I do not shy away from this fact.)
The minute I took my spoonful, I realized...

Seriously
I got a cold… while I had a cold.
Body, you’re fired.
This will not stop me from:
defending my masters research project today
chaperoning prom tomorrow
writing a research paper this weekend
going to see Jimmy Eat World next weekend
Not like that was a challenge or anything, body. We’re cool.

Me: Just got to your house.
R: I'm at dinner. Can I call you after?
Me: Yep. I'll do yoga. And promise not to break anything. And wash any footprints off the wall.
